Dates: Every Monday in July, 5 – 6:30 p.m., CST (July 7, 14, 21, 28)
Goals for the course
Produce a clearly written, artistic, and personally expressive lead sheet arrangement a jazz standard to use on a gig of your own, and add an optional 2nd or 3rd part for a jazz quintet or sextet.
Perform arrangement ideas for your class peers, and perform your arrangement online, live or pre-recorded
Try melodic and rhythmic techniques discussed
Use music notation software, and/or clear hand-written notation to produce a lead sheet for rhythm section and soloist
Expand to a 2 or 3-horn format for use with a jazz quintet or sextet
Introduce techniques for rhythm section notation
Introduce 4-part vertical techniques
